Center Director Megon Coon is a skilled Music Together® teacher, experienced educator and lifelong vocalist. Megon earned dual degrees in Elementary Education and Spanish from the University of Alaska, then followed her interest in languages and learning to the University of Minnesota, where she obtained a Master’s degree in Second Languages and Cultures Education.

After working in both elementary and adult education for several years, Megon and her husband Kevin started their family in 2016, and Megon discovered Music Together classes shortly thereafter. Participating in the classes with her children reignited the passion for making music that had been such an important part of her youth. She trained as a Music Together teacher in California and was thrilled to discover that teaching the program’s research-based, developmentally-appropriate curriculum full of songs from around the world was a perfect way to blend her passions for music, education, language acquisition, and culture. She started Music Together Mountain Song in 2022.

Karen Lease taught Music Together from 2017-2020 and is looking forward to getting back into the groove of singing, dancing and wiggling with YOU. Music Together was her favorite activity to do with her three boys when they were little. “I played piano and tuba in my youth and sang in the choir, but really missed that feeling of playing instruments and singing with other people. Music Together was a way to do this with young kids and also rekindled my passion for music.”

Karen comes to us with an extensive teaching background; she has taught everything from high school sciences to kids yoga. Now, she can frequently be seen around town with her family, ukulele in tow, or jamming with the Alaska Jumping Fleas. She also suggests dusting off that instrument in your closet or your vocal cords to make music together with your family and friends.
